Background:Lipitor (marketed as Cialis) and Viagra (marketed as sildenafil) are two such drugs that are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). While the exact mechanisms are unknown, the drug has been shown to be a potent vasodilator and has a beneficial effect on improving blood flow in the penis.
Objectives:To determine the effect of sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, on the effect of sildenafil, cialis and phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors.
Methods:A placebo-controlled trial with sildenafil and cialis was conducted in male patients (age 18-49 years).
Results:In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, sildenafil, the combination of sildenafil and cialis, significantly improved erectile function. In addition, sildenafil significantly improved erectile function compared with placebo. Cialis also significantly improved sexual function compared with placebo.
Conclusion:In a placebo-controlled clinical trial with sildenafil and cialis, the combination of sildenafil and cialis significantly improved erectile function and sexual function.
Viagra (marketed as sildenafil) and Cialis (marketed as tadalafil) are two such drugs that are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. However, their active ingredient, sildenafil, has been shown to be a potent vasodilator and has a beneficial effect on improving blood flow in the penis. This study was designed to determine the effect of sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, on the effect of sildenafil, cialis and phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors.Study Design
Study Population
Approximately 60 men with a mean age of 49 (range 18-79) years were recruited from the study. Each study participant was evaluated in a blinded fashion and any adverse events were recorded during the study.
Eligible patients were given either a placebo or a combination of sildenafil and cialis. The trial was open-label, with a 12-week, double-blind, random-controlled trial of sildenafil, the combination of sildenafil and cialis. All patients had a baseline sexual desire-to-satisfaction scale (0-100) of 0-10, and were randomly assigned to receive either a placebo (n=18) or a combination of sildenafil and cialis (n=18) (mean age, 49.8 years, mean duration of intercourse, 36.3 months). In addition, the patients were randomly assigned to receive either a placebo or cialis (n=12) (mean age, 48.9 years, mean duration of intercourse, 21.4 months).
Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Patients with a baseline sexual desire-to-satisfaction scale of 0-10 (0-4) and patients who do not have a baseline sexual desire-to-satisfaction scale of 0-4 (0-6) were excluded from the study.
The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
Main outcome measure
The primary outcome measure was the proportion of patients with a change from baseline (0-100) in the erectile function domain of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF):
- a composite endpoint of the IIEF-EF-C or the International Index of Erectile Function-C, and the ability to achieve and maintain an erection (0-100) or a sexual desire-to-satisfaction score (0-100), respectively.
The secondary outcome measures were the ability to achieve and maintain an erection (0-100) or a sexual desire-to-satisfaction score (0-100).
